The seaport city of Miami is one of the most iconic metropolitan landscapes in the world, and the setting of many famous shows and movies from film industries all over the world. Since it is also a highly sought-after tourism destination means there are plenty of accommodation options available. From budget bed and breakfast lodgings, to many a South Beach Miami hotel to choose from such as COMO Metropolitan Miami Beach, if you’re feeling more indulgent.
One of the most famous attractions in Miami is the American Airlines Arena, which the NBA team Miami Heat call home. In addition to being a sports venue, the arena, locally referred to as ‘Tripe A’, has hosted a wide variety of different events other than Basketball such as a UFC main event, and various notable musical performances.
The arena was built at the end of 1999, with a total construction cost of $213 million, and the inauguration featured a special concert by the legendary musician of Miami-origin Gloria Estefan. Two days later, the home-team, Miami Heat, played their first match in the arena where they beat their opposition 111-103.
The musical shows that have taken place at the American Airlines Arena are some of the most significant performances in the entire state, featuring many of the biggest names in recent musical history. In 2005, U2 performed as part of their Vertigo Tour. The year before that, Britney Spears performed at the arena and set a record in attendance for the venue when a crowd of 18,466 were present for her performance. In more recent times, artists and bands such as One Direction, The Weeknd, Adele and Katy Perry have all graced the iconic Triple-A with their performances.
If you’ve ever in Miami, be sure to check out this famous venue to see if any events are taking place that you might want to attend.
