Weligama Bay has recently become quite popular with surfers; both beginners and at a pro level. In Weligama, hotel accommodations, restaurants and surfing schools can be found in plenty with hotels such as Weligama Bay Marriott Resort & Spa being a new favourite.
A few km off Weligama, you’ll find Mirissa beach an ideal spot for intermediate to pro level surfers. The towering emerald waves are a magnificent sight. The beach is lined up with plenty of bars and restaurants offering you a haven from the sun.
Travel towards the east of the island, and you’ll find the iconic surfing spot in the entire island. Surfers travel from around the world to break through the waves at Arugam Bay.
A lesser-known surfing beach on the island, the waves here are smooth and are certainly not for those at a beginner level.
