The Victoria Falls Bridge, was constructed many miles away, in England by the Cleveland Bridge and Engineering Company, where George Hobson came up with the iconic arched design. The one hundred and ninety eight metre long creation is built of steel with the main arch stretching just over one hundred and fifty six metres. The components were shipped to the Mozambique and transported by train to the building site. Just fourteen months later, the bridge was complete, suspended one hundred and twenty eight metres above the roaring Zambezi. It was declared open by Professor George Darwin, son of Charles Darwin, on September 12th 1905. The bridge features a railway, the only one that links Zambia and Zimbabwe; a roadway, one of the three that connects the two countries and a footbridge.
