The Dutch Museum in Colombo is an interesting white building that is home to the rich history and culture of Sri Lanka.
History
Unlike most countries that try to remove any remnants of rulings in the past, Sri Lanka celebrates the Dutch interval in her rich and varied history by having founded this museum that is a symbol of the Dutch Period on the island. Over the years, the building has been used for many things, from being a training institute for young clergymen to an orphanage; this place has seen it all.
Location
Surrounded by old buildings and open verandas, the outside of the museum is a lovely place to be in too and is a short drive away if you are staying at a hotel like Cinnamon Red Colombo, for instance. Not too far from a typical Colombo city hotel, this museum is just a 10-minute walk from the Fort Railway Station. The Colombo Dutch Museum is open on all days except Fridays and visitors are more than welcome to stroll in on any given day, to walk in and educate themselves with the history and stories from the Dutch era.
