Colombo fort is the major business area of Colombo district. This is the where the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) and the world trade center of Colombo is situated.
Location
Fort is located in between the Colombo harbor towards the north and the Beire lake towards the South.
As a major commercial hub of the country, fort is only 50 minutes away from the Katunayake Bandaranaike international airport.
History
The Colombo fort was primarily built by the Portuguese and was developed by the Dutch. The Portuguese built a fort around the Colombo harbor to defend against invaders, this is the Colombo fort. The Dutch invaded in 1658 and developed the Beire lake and the rest of the city to establish their defense strategies. The parliament and other developments were done by the British.

Fort is composed of a mixture of buildings from various historical eras. This includes colonial structures such as the old parliament building, main street in fort with the Ghaffoor building and the historic Cargills and Millers building.

Colombo Fort is packed with offices, various commercial centers and some luxury apartments in Colombo. Certain new commercial projects in the area such as Capitol TwinPeaks are also under construction.
