Belem Tower

The Belem Tower was constructed in the 1500s and is one of the city’s most iconic and popular attractions. The watchtower was built to guard the city at the harbour entrance. Visitors staying at any of the major hotel chains in Lisbon city such as properties of Minor Hotels will find a few to choose from in the area.

St. Georges Castle

Locally and more accurately known as São Jorge Castle overlooks the city of Lisbon. It has been known to date back to the 6th century when it was built by the Roman Empire. The castle’s ramparts are visited by a few majestic peacocks. The castle was dedicated to the patron saint of England, Saint George.

Jeronimos Monastery

This monastery has been marked as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is located near the Belem Tower. The church that forms part of the Jeronimos Monastery was the final resting place of the famous local explorer, Vasco de Gama.

Museums

Lisbon has a variety of interesting museums for those who are keen to explore and learn about the history and heritage. Visit museums like Berardo Museum, Calouste Gulbenkian Museum or the Ancient Art Museum.
