About
Being one of the most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage sites in China, the Famen Temple was built about 1700 years ago. It is located in the Famen town, 120 km west of Xian. The temple has gained much significance after discovering four relics of Buddha which were found in the underground palace in the temple.
History
The temple gained royal fame during the Tang dynasty and it was one of the largest monasteries in China by that time. According to historical records, 8 emperors of Tang dynasty have welcomed the Buddha’s finger bones to the underground palace.
Location
The temple can be reached by taking Tourist Bus No. 2 from Xi’an Railway Station. Don’t worry if you are away from the Famen town. For instance, if you are staying at one of the Xian China hotels the likes of Grand Park Xian, the temple is about 116km away.

This has six floors divided into underground and ground. The design of Namaste Dagoda has gained much significance due to its indication of putting hands together. It represents Buddhist ceremony features which aptly shows the basic intention of the human pursuit of peace.
