The famous Koneswaram Temple, which was a prominent site of worship since time immemorial was also one of the targets of the invaders. This temple was destroyed by Portuguese colonial Constantino de Sa de Noronha on Tamil New Year’s Day. On the site, the famous Fort Frederick was built.
History of the fort
Fort Frederick, which is also known as Trincomalee Fort, was built in the year 1624. The debris of the world-renowned Koneswaram Temple was used to build this fort.
