What is the Laweyan Village?
The Laweyan Batik Village is Solo’s oldest and most famous Batik village, after the Kauman Village. Batik has become the main livelihood of most of the 2, 500 residents here who are either employed in the manufacturing or selling.
Where is it?
The village is located in the heart of Solo, a.k.a Surakarta, just a few minutes away from most of the city’s other attractions like the Hadiningrat Palace. This area is so a tourist friendly that it won’t be difficult for you to find a hotel in Solo. Ever since the 19th Century, the Laweyan Batik Village has been an icon in the batik Industry of Solo. What makes the batik of Laweyan stand apart is that unlike that of Kauman’s, is that it features light coloured, beautiful prints.
