According to the legend….

The Sacred Tooth of Buddha was obtained from the pyre after his death and handed over to the King of Kalinga. It was brought to Sri Lanka in 313 AD and since then has been kept as a treasure of the country. The relic became the symbol of royalty in Sri Lanka.

Getting there

The monument is a 20-minute drive away from Mahaweli Reach Hotel. The location of the temple is close to many a luxury hotel in Kandy. The main entrance is in front of the Kandy lake. There are maps of the complex, so it will be easy to explore.

What you will see

There is much to see inside. The palace premises, the Pattirippuwa and the Kandy National Museum are some of the few places to visit inside. You will also find intricate wood and stone carvings, some as ancient as the temple itself.

The experience

With the clear pathways and greenery that surrounds the majestic white palace is a serene sight to behold. Especially in the twilight, the white stupa looks amazing against the background of the sky that’s gradually changing colors.
