Chiang Rai is the largest city in Thailand’s northern region and it is regarded as a cultural and spiritual oasis in the north. The city’s main claim to fame is the 15th century discovery of the beautiful Emerald Buddha, when lightning struck the temple that had concealed it. Visitors to this fascinating Thai city should look forward to being pampered with true tropical hospitality at the range of fine Chiang Rai hotels in the city. The Anantara Golden Triangle Thailand is an excellent choice of accommodation as it offers sumptuous interiors and exotic excursions for visitors to make the most of a stay at this quality hotel Chiang Rai. Amidst the plethora of ancient temples in the city, it is or will be home to one of the most exquisite contemporary tributes to Buddhism: the Wat Rong Khun. Designed by renowned Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpitpat whose works feature Buddhist imagery, construction on this unique temple commenced in 1996 and it is expected to be completed in 2070. It is a splendid tribute to the faith and interesting incorporates elements from modern pop culture that Kositpitpat believed paid tribute to the ancient principles of Buddhism. The temple’s impressive interiors incorporates rich symbolism from Buddhism and Hinduism, as well as featuring Superman, Batman and Neo from the Matrix, who all embodied Buddhism in one form or another. The artist is looking to the project to bring him immportality enshrined in its creation, and he has dedicated it to Lord Buddha. It is a creative twist on your usual Buddhist temple and its beautiful white and glimmering glass exteriors will mesmerize all eyes that fall upon the façade.
