The Galle Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has been a magical place for a long time. More recently it is home to a dwindling population of Dutch burghers and writers and artists from all walks of life.
Walk Along the Ramparts
Ringed in thick ramparts, built by the Dutch in the 17th century, the Galle Fort is one of the most easily navigable places if you are looking for a fun walk along ancient lanes and ramparts overlooking the fort.
Explore the Dutch Architecture
Many of the old Dutch buildings within the fort have been renovated into a Sri Lankan luxury resort. You can find plenty of architectural wonders with one walk around the fort.
Have a Koththu
Head to Galle Things Rotti for some Koththu which can be safely declared the most popular street food in Sri Lanka. Koththu is made up of rotti cut into pasta-like strips and mixed with vegetables, meat, curries and cheese.
Go Surfing
Unawatuna is only a few kilometres away from Galle and is one of the more popular Sri Lankan surf towns. There are plenty of surf schools in the vicinity or you can ask your hotel, for example, Aditya Resort to get you in touch with an instructor.
Drink Some Coffee
While you are in Unawatuna you can go around and look for a good cup of coffee; tourists and digital nomads recommend Kat’s Coffee.
