A Brief Introduction into the Heritage of Cambodia

First off let’s discover Cambodia’s dazzling past. Way before the Kingdom of Cambodia came to be, the mighty Khmer Empire flourished for 600 years since its inception in 802 AD by King Jayavarman II. During this time, many spectacular temples were built including the magnificent Angkor Wat temple, which is undoubtedly the number one amongst all the attractions in the country.

Angkor Wat

Declared as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992, Angkor Wat or the City of Temples is the world’s largest religious monument. It’s located in Siem Reap; visit the Anantara Angkor Resort Official Site or any other website of a resort or boutique hotel in Siem Reap to find out about exciting tours and packages to the site.

Preah Vihear Temple

Built during the Khmer Empire just like Angkot Wat, the Preah Vihear Temple was listed among UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2008. It lies perched atop a cliff in the Dangrek Mountains offering breathtaking views. The temple is famous for its unusual architecture as it is built along a long north-south axis, unlike the traditional rectangular plan which has an orientation towards the east.
