The capital of the Guangdong Province in the Peoples Republic of China is Guangzhou. It is the third largest city in China and is located in the South of China on the Pearl River. This city is also known as Canton and Kwangchow. Whilst most of the exhibitions contain English translations, quite a majority is in Cantonese or Mandarin script, the languages that is widely spoken across China. The museum has many a famous exhibit, one such is the arched corridor outside the main building containing 118 stones inscribed by honoured Chinese calligraphers from the Jin to Qing dynasty. It must be noted that the Qing dynasty was from 1644-1912 therefore these inscriptions are without a doubt lasting impressions of these great dynasty’s that concluded in the early twentieth century. The Guangzhou’s new art museum claims to be one of the largest morden art museums in China devoted to preserving recent works of Chinese Art. The museum also has a smaller building, which houses a natural history exhibition with fossil remains from the nearby area. A must see when visiting the museum is the Statue of Appreciating Flowers.
