The museum is located in the midst of Old Muscat, a town where most of the Muscat sightseeing is based at that there’s quite a cluster of hotels surrounding it the likes of the Al Falaj Hotel. So finding a good place to settle down in within the ‘walled city’ won’t be such a difficult task. Old Muscat has quite an interesting collection of museums but the Al Zabair is the most interesting and grandest of all. Pronounced as “Zubeer”, the museum was founded by the Zubair family, who still hold ownership and management of it. The wide array of exhibits at the museum is those that have been collected throughout the years by the Zubair family. These display the Oman’s rich culture, craftsmanship, and customs. Some of the exhibits include a collection of household articles ranging from kohl holders to coffeepots; antique firearms and ‘khanjars’ and a great selection of traditional jewellery and clothing. The Bait Al Zubair Museum is said to have one of the most notable and extensive collections of ancient weapons in the country.
Once you’ve seen all the curiosities, go out to take a leisurely stroll through the museum’s surrounding gardens. Here you will come across traditional Omani barasti majlis and a falaj, There’s also an entertaining modern village built according to Omani-style. If you feel hungry there’s even a coffee shop at the site.
