Where’s it Located?
The Han River originates in the Taebaek Sanmaek Mountains of North Korea and flows all the way down into Seoul, the capital of South Korea, before emptying out into the Yellow Sea. The History of the River
The Han River has a recorded history that dates back over 2,000 years. For most of this time period, it played an integral role in the lives of those who lived near it. The Han River was a primary source of water, and it rendered the soil near it fertile, which allowed agricultural pursuits to thrive. It was also coveted as a strategic location, and, so, saw countless battles over the centuries, between the different kingdoms of the land which each sought to gain control over it.
Another of its Main Uses
The river also played another important role. It was one of the main means of transportation within the land. Especially between the end of the 14th century and the start of the 20th century (i.e. the Joseon Dynasty), the Han River was a vital transportation link. Without it, people and goods would not have been able to travel as freely as they did.
