Among the many attractions of Oman, one that is unparalleled in the views it offers is Jebel Shams Mountain. Standing a staggering 3009m tall, Jebel Shams Mountain is the highest mountain in Oman. The mountain has attracted many tourists and travelers over the years, especially because of the awe-inspiring views it offers, and for its great hiking trails.
Jebel Shams Mountain is part of Oman’s Al Hajar Mountain Range, located just north of the town of Al Hamra. The mountain has become a frequently visited location amongst tourists who want to spend the day outdoors admiring Oman’s scenic beauty. The path to the summit of Jebel Shams Mountain can be traveled by car or by foot. There are several car parks along the path which are strategically located at the sites which offer the best views of the surrounding area. The best view, however, is the view of the breathtakingly deep Wadi Ghul; a monumental canyon which is colloquially referred to as the Grand Canyon of Arabia. There isn’t much to do at the mountain, other than, of course, climbing it. But the climb is rewarding as it offers some of the best views of the region and is great for taking memorable photographs. Trekking enthusiasts and endure the popular Balcony Trail, which is both exciting and very rewarding.
