Origin of its name
According to legend, the name of the palace, Seteais mean seven sighs was inspired by the romance between a Moorish princess and a Portuguese noble.
History
Located 30 minutes away, Seteais Palace was built between 1783 and 1787. This was taken over by the Portuguese government in 1946. Preserving its original characteristics, since 1954 the palace has been used as a five star Sintra boutique hotel, popularly known as Tivoli Palácio de Seteais Sintra Hotel.
1802
Prince Regent, John IV and his wife were invited for a visit by the Marquis of Marialva in 1802. An archway adorned with busts for the royals was built by the Marquis to celebrate the occasion.
