Old Colombo Dutch Hospital

Similar to the one in Galle, the Dutch Hospital in Colombo is also a popular cool hangout spot in the city, especially on weekends.

History

This is one of the oldest buildings in the Fort area and dates back to the Dutch colonial era on the island. The building is now a dining and shopping precinct, but back in the days, it was used for various purposes. It was originally built by the Dutch for the employees of the Dutch East India Company.

Barefoot, Ministry of Crabs, Heladiv Tea Club and Taphouse are just a few of the places you might want to check out while inside this shopping precinct.

Location

Within walking distance from Galle Face, the Dutch Hospital Precinct is close to many a Colombo city hotel the likes of Colombo Court Hotel & Spa.

When to go

If you want the place to be silent and the halls to be empty, weekday evenings are the best. If you love crowded bars and happening places, then the weekend it is.
