The number of islands in the thousand island archipelago is up for debate. It certainly isn’t a thousand. But one thing is certain; many of the islands are perfect fits for a day trip.
How to get there
Book a cab on your Grab app and head to Kali Adem ferry port. You can choose to take the public ferry or board a speedboat. It will be easier to travel if you leave your luggage behind your hotel and carry the essentials only. Most furnished apartments Jakarta and hotels will let you leave luggage in the back office. You can try this at places such as the Citadines Rasuna Jakarta.
Choose your island
This largely depends on what you enjoy. Perak Island is famous for white sandy beaches and clear blue waters. Pramuka Island is great for snorkeling was is Harapan Island. Tiger Island is surrounded by exquisitely turquoise waters. Pulau Cina is a wonderful spot for tree swinging, kayaking and getting away from crowds. Kotok Island’s underwater park is admirable.
Exploring your island
After you buy your ticket and find out about departure times, head to the main beach. Go for a dip in the waters, snorkel and find a shady spot to relax. You can go explore sleepy island life too.
Heading back home
Most speedboats leave around 2 to 3 pm. By that time, you two would have had a satisfying day. If you want to stay back though, most islands have decent guest houses.
