Housing well over a hundred ostriches, the Desaru Ostrich Farm can be a fun outing for all kinds of travellers – from families to couples. Not only can you get up close and personal with these intriguing birds, but there’s also a host of other interesting activities to do as well.
The farm is open from 10 am to 6 pm on all seven days of the week, and there are several ways to get there. If you’re close to Senai airport, a ferry to Desaru might be your best option. If you’re staying somewhere in the Johor region, the best option would be to just rent a car to the farm.
There’s plenty of accommodation options for those planning to stay in Desaru or the surrounding Johor area. Options vary from hotels to pool villas in Malaysia, and some, such as the Anantara Desaru Coast Residences provide access to pristine beachfronts.
Touring the Farm
Upon arriving at the farm, a caretaker will act as your personal guide around the property. You’ll be able to observe, pet and feed ostriches of various ages – from tiny chicks to full-grown birds that can look you in the eye.
Lunch and Souvenirs
You can bookend your tour at the farm by having a hearty meal at the on-site restaurant. There’s a variety of ostrich-themed dishes to choose from, including omelettes, satay, and even ostrich nuggets! There are also various souvenirs you can buy at the farm as a memento of your time at Desaru Ostrich Farm.
