Phillip Island is known to be the home to the world’s largest little penguin colony. The magic of viewing those amazing seabirds will be an experience for a lifetime when at Phillip Island Nature Parks’ Penguin Parade.
What to expect
Go along boardwalks when the surroundings are dark to hear and see penguins in the colony greeting their partners, chicks, and neighbours. While you walk, don’t forget to keep an eye on resident wildlife including Eastern Barred Bandicoots, Short-tailed Shearwaters and Cape Barren Geese.
Getting there
There are free car parking facilities on site. You just have to take a 90-minute drive from Melbourne to Phillip Island. You will find many Melbourne hotel apartments within easy access to the venue such as Oaks Melbourne on Lonsdale Suites from where you can arrange a taxi to visit the island. Public transport is limited on Phillip Island.
Activities and tickets
The Penguin Parade offers a myriad of activities for travellers of all ages. No matter whether you want to be led by one of the knowledgeable rangers or a self-guided experience, there is an option for everyone. Keep in mind that everyone including children requires a ticket to enter the park.
Best time
The penguin parade visitor centre usually opens around 5.00 pm. Therefore, it is better if you can arrive at least one hour before this time. For estimated penguin arrival time you can download the penguin arrival time calendar.
