Climbing Season
The climbing season of Sri Pada popularly known as Samanala Kanda begins at the time of the rising of the full moon (Uduvap poya day) that falls in December and goes up to five months until Wesak full moon poya day the following year. Climbing the 2,200-metre tall mountain is quite an adventure during the season as there are thousands of pilgrims. It is wise to base yourself in one of the holiday bungalows in Nuwara Eliya the likes of Amaya Langdale which gives easy access to Adam’s Peak.
Climbing Time
The usual time to begin the ascent is in the night around 8 pm after a cold shower at the bottom of the hill if you wish which is done by the majority of the pilgrims to cleanse themselves for paying homage to the imprinted footprint of Lord Buddha. There are approximately 5,500 stone steps that you have to climb in order to reach the summit of Adam’s Peak.

Adam’s Peak is enveloped and surrounded by a tropical rainforest that boasts rich biodiversity with endemic wildlife. It is best seen during one’s descent after sunrise as you would be treated to lush green foliage wherever you turn to look around.
