Where is Gregory Lake located?
Located in the chilly town of Nuwara Eliya, Gregory Lake is easily reachable from any of the hotels in Nuwara Eliya such as the Heritance Tea Factory. It is also a mere 30-minute seaplane ride away from Colombo.
About Gregory Lake
This prominent water attraction was named after the late Sir William Gregory in 1873 and was built during the British Era. Today it is used as a lake for many water sports and other leisure activities.
Activities to do at Gregory Lake
Take a leisurely stroll around the lake with your loved one or opt for a paddleboat ride on the cool waters in a swan-shaped boat. You could also try out the range of eateries, restaurants, and street food stalls available along the banks of the lake. For the kids, there are also pony rides available and even cycles to be rented out for a ride around the lake. For a family day-out, you could even try out a picnic on the banks of the river for a different experience!
Best time to visit
The lake opening times are from 8.00am – 6.00 pm on all seven days of the week so anytime between this is fine. However, it is recommended to go during the morning hours if you want to avoid the harsh sun rays or periodical rains in the afternoon.
