Sella Kataragama is popular as the place where the God Kataragama met his spouse for the first time. The Kirivehera Temple
Kirivehera temple is one of the most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Sri Lanka. This pure white stupa was built by King Mahasen and it’s 96 feet high. According to the Dhatuvamsa, it is said that Buddha has visited this place during his third visit to Sri Lanka. Kataragama Maha Devalaya
Kataragama Maha Devalaya is known as a place of reverence for many cultures. Once visited this site you will witness many pilgrims carrying baskets of fruits which are to be offered to God Kataragama. If you visit this develaya during July or August, you will see an amazing spectacle of the Kataragama festival.
Kataragama Museum
This museum showcases a collection of Buddhist and Hindu artefacts. In addition, you will see huge fibreglass replicas of statues from all around the country.
