Providing unique insights into a rich heritage and history, the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) is one of the key attractions in Doha, the nation’s capital. Here’s a look at what to expect.
Planning Your Visit
This site can be found across from the well-known Corniche; when looking for Doha hotel packages, finding a close-by property will offer easy access to other attractions too. Located along Museum Park Street and within a 10-minute drive from Al Najada Doha Hotel by Tivoli, it is open daily from 9:00am to 7:00pm, except Fridays when it opens at 1:30pm.
Distinctive Design
Amongst the aspects that make it stand out amongst museums in Qatar is the unique design; the brainchild of Frenchman, Jean Nouvel, the site’s design takes on the form of a desert rose, an intricate mineral formation. Featuring curved interlocking disks and a restored palace, it is a marvel to behold.
The Museum Collection
The National Museum of Qatar features 11 galleries with ancient artefacts and sensorial exhibits each telling stories that makeup elements of the country’s history, present and journey beyond. Amongst the highlights is the Pearl Carpet of Baroda that is said to have in excess of 1.5 million Gulf pearls!
Relaxing at the Park
The museum also features a park which has a special Heritage Garden, lagoon, café and public artworks on display. An ideal place to unwind, this area is home to a children’s playground as well with attractions like the Cave of Wonders and the Adventure Ship that young ones are bound to enjoy.
