Abu Dhabi is the largest of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates, and it is home to the country’s capital city. This fascinating emirate is home to many interesting attractions such as the Al Jahili Fort, the Al Ain Palace Museum and the Al Maqtaa Fort. Although not very big in size, the Al Maqtaa Fort is still an impressive structure.
The bone-white structure was built over two hundred years ago and is one of the oldest buildings in Abu Dhabi. The building originally served as a watchtower against marauding bandits and was used as the first line of defence – this was at a time when the currently massive emirate was still a small fishing village. The fort was built along traditional styles, with the use of stones and wood. Although old, it is very strong and has withstood the ravages of time. It is a little difficult to reach the fort as it is situated on a little island, but the effort is well worth it.
The Al Maqtaa Fort is located right next to the Al Maqtaa Bridge, a steel marvel of modern engineering. Side by side, the historic and modern structures form an incongruous pair that is nevertheless commonplace in an emirate where the past, present and future often collide. Although the area is highly photogenic, one should keep in mind that it is a military zone and one should be careful when taking photographs.
While not as big a tourist destination as Dubai, Abu Dhabi is an interesting place to visit. Full of cultural and historical attractions, it is a place where one can get the authentic Arabian experience. Another reason that makes the emirate such as great vacation spot is the excellent infrastructure. Tourists will find it easy to locate essentials, whether it is a good restaurant to eat at or a good hotel in Abu Dhabi to stay in. The Eastern Mangroves, Abu Dhabi provides luxury accommodation Abu Dhabi and is an excellent place to stay. Set by the waterfront, the hotel provides guests with unrivalled vistas of the surrounding areas. Elegantly designed and bursting with modern amenities, guests are sure to enjoy their stay here.
