Having hosted innumerable international surfing contests in recent times the venue boasts idyllic conditions for water sports. Famed for right-handed point breaks surfing season officially kicks off in the months between April and October. Boasting an average wave height that ranges between 1.5 to 2.5m some of the area’s best-known surf points include Crocodile Rock, Peanut Farm Potuvil Point and Main Break.
How to travel
There are different routes that you can take to Arugam Bay and this depends on where you start your journey. Air taxi tours in Sri Lanka is one of the best modes of transport when travelling to Arugam Bay as it would take approximately 7 hours if you use a private vehicle. You can use a domestic air taxi service such as Cinnamon Air too.
Surfing Season
Arugam Bay’s surfing season is from May to November. Be prepared for crowds during this time of the year. Isolated beaches and budget friendly accommodation will not be in sight when the tides are high! It gets pretty jam-packed on the main breaks since the mellow surf makes it a great spot for any skill level.

If you are going on a surfing trip then obviously you will be carrying your own surfboard. But if surfing is actually going to be only a part of your journey then you can always hire one since there are plenty of places available.
