Built between the latter part of the 1500s and the start of the 1600s this fort is comprised of two sections the Baluarte de San Diego and the section that contains the three-tiered circular walls called the Torre de Nuestra Señora de Guia.
The history of the fort
The fort was in fact designed by a priest and architect by the name of Antonio Sedeño and was instrumental in defending the city during times of war. It has also been strong enough to survive various earthquakes to have struck the fort as well.
The present-day state of the fort
It currently is found alongside a vast golf course and is visited by many people each day. If you are staying in an accommodation in Manila, such as the Citadines Millennium Ortigas Manila be sure to take a trip to the fort.
The San Diego Gardens
This is gardens found right outside the fort and is a stunning place to visit with friends and family for a picnic.
Things to keep in mind
The fort is mainly open between 8 am till 5 pm but if you miss the chance to visit keep in mind that there are plenty of other historical sites in the vicinity.
