Located north of the Phi Phi Islands, is Bamboo Island in Thailand. The specialty about this particular island is that it is private and less crowded in comparison with beaches like Ton Sai Bay or Maya. It is also unique because the terrain is different to the Phi Phi Islands. There are no high rocky peaks here; it is a small island that is covered in white sand and coconut trees. Access to it is via long tail boat and one will have to pay around 1500 baht as you embark on a 3 hour journey that will lead you to this enchanting isle.
At first the island might look flat and uninteresting, because it is small and there are no visible geographical variations, but you will be proven wrong when you set foot on it. It is so small you can walk right around it in half an hour. The water is quite shallow and there are a lot of washed up corals that have settled on the beach. It is usually deserted during the off season and those looking for some peace and quiet should try avoiding going during the peak season which is between December and March.
Bamboo Island is ideal for a romantic getaway, especially if you go just before the sunsets. Sitting on the beach watching the sun set is definitely an amazing experience. There is a small bar that serves drinks and snacks and camping tents can be rented on the beach. You should also explore the corals and the reef; there are a lot of fish who freely roam in the clear waters providing a fascinating underwater sightseeing experience. Clown fish are a popular sight and there are groups of them that gather around the island.
When visiting the country also make sure to take a Bangkok cruise tour such as those offered by Anantara Cruises Thailand. These Bangkok cruises offer a unique insight into the city’s rich culture, history and heritage and make for sightseeing tours that are both educational and enriching. It is an ideal way to see the parts of the city that have developed along an enchanting riverside setting.
