A bit from the history
The museum was first opened in 1874 by King Rama V for the purpose of exhibiting relics from the period of rule of his father. Today this has become one great attraction for visitors who reside at any riverside hotel in Bangkok especially if they are spending time with the family and are looking for things to do in the vicinity.
What’s there?
The museum has 12 halls and each of them has multimedia displays in English. There is also a good ethnological collection of Chinese weapons, precious stones, ceramics and textiles that you can witness when you go along the paths.
The special highlights
Do not miss the inscribed stone pillar of King Ramkamhaeng which is said to be the oldest record of Thai writing when you visit this museum in addition to the Buddhaisawan Chapel which is located on the Museum grounds.
