Banteay Srei means “Citadel of Women” and is a 10th-century red sandstone Hindu temple that is situated about 20 km away from Angkor Wat.

When to Visit
The best time to visit Banteay Srei is early in the morning or late in the afternoon. As there is very little shade from the heat it is best to avoid it when the sun is directly overhead. The stones also look dazzling in the light of the golden hour so you can get great photographs.
How to Get There
Banteay Srei is 20 km from the Angkor Wat hotels and the surroundings. So, it would take you roughly about an hour of driving to get there from FCC Angkor Siem Reap. It’s a very picturesque drive if you are going by tuk-tuk, you can see the rolling rice fields and villages and rural landscapes.
History
Banteay Srei was discovered sometime around 1914 but it wasn’t really in the public’s radar until a French politician stole some relics from it. The restoration project began and though initially considered to date back to the 13th or 14th centuries, it was found that it was consecrated on the 22nd of April, 967 AD and was constructed by a non-royal; the only temple in the area that was.
