Set amidst the azure beauty of the Indian Ocean, the Quirimbas Archipelago in Mozambique offers plenty of amazing adventures. Here is a quick guide on the best times to visit.
Planning a Trip
This archipelago can be found off Mozambique’s north-eastern coast and can be accessed via air transfers from Pemba. It features around 32 islands such Quirimba, Quisiva and Medjumbe, the latter of which is home to Anantara Medjumbe Island Resort amongst the local properties to be based at.
Choosing the Season
Generally, May to September when temperatures and rainfall are relatively low is the best time to visit the Quirimbas Archipelago on a holiday to Mozambique. Hotels offer plenty of water sports and activities during this time too. Alternatively, consider the season from October to March; it does get hotter and experiences rain especially in January and February, though not all the time.
Whale Watching Season
One of the key things to do in Mozambique is to enjoy whale watching which awaits at the Quirimbas Archipelago especially from July to October; during this time, one can spot migrating Arctic humpback whales around areas such as Medjumbe Island. On your voyage, you may even see bottlenose dolphins swimming wild and free!
Spotting Marine Turtles
Home to the Quirimbas National Park, this archipelago also offers travellers a chance to spot marine turtles. The best season for this is from October and April; one has the opportunity to witness these marine species nesting on the shore and baby turtles hatching later on, which is truly unforgettable.
