Be it on the boundless Indian Ocean or at lagoons and rivers, Sri Lanka offers plenty of fun water sports. There is much to look forward to when here, with such activities available around the country.

Surfing
If you are staying at Sri Lanka beach resorts along the south coast, then you are ideally placed to enjoy surfing at destinations like Hikkaduwa, Unawatuna and Weligama. However, not to be missed is Arugam Bay on the east coast, often considered the best spot for surfing in Sri Lanka.
Swimming
A laid-back water sport, swimming is something you can easily indulge in while staying at properties by the beach including the likes of The Blue Water Hotel and Spa. Do keep in mind that the seas can get rough at certain times so do look out for any warnings or red flags.
Kitesurfing
Destinations like Negombo and especially Kalpitiya have become hotspots for the thrilling activity of kitesurfing. The powerful ocean breezes here are perfect and you will find plenty of centres that offer the needed training too.
Snorkelling
The ocean waters surrounding Sri Lanka are home to vibrant coral and marine life making snorkelling another top activity to try. Hikkaduwa and Unawatuna along the south coast and the Pigeon Island Marine National Park in the east are amongst the best areas for snorkelling.
Jet skiing
For more high-powered action there’s jet skiing in Bentota that can be enjoyed on tranquil river waters. Those with experience can showcase their daring skills on the water, while others can just enjoy the ride.
