Along the borders of Lobesa in Bhutan stands a temple intriguing in structure but more so in purpose. The Chimi Lhakhang is a very popular temple among tourists perhaps because of all the fascinating beliefs that worshippers keep faith in or because of all the stories of the divine madman. Whatever it is, it is certainly one temple definitely worth a visit.
The Chimi Lhakhang is very famously known as the temple of fertility which is reflected perfectly by its ambience that strongly emulates an aura of contentment that can only be attained by the formation of life.  Surrounding are lush green expanses of paddy fields and the most fascinating fact is how well the paddy thrives here and the Bhutanese believe that this is attributed to its close proximity to this fertility temple. Chimi Lhakhang is dedicated to the great Lama Drukpa Kuenley commonly known as the divine madman. Lama Drukpa lived in Bhutan somewhere around the 1500’s.
He was a devout Buddhist who attained the highest level of Spiritual Wisdom. But there was something about this saint that made him even more popular; it was his outrageous ways of practicing his religion which were strongly laced with sexual overtones. Hence his followers adored him much for his powers yet named him the divine madman. Under the cover of passionate lust and endless womanizing, Drukpa Kuenley gave the greatest gift to society; Children; which is life itself. Today this greatest power of Drukpa Kuenley has made the Chimi Lhakhang one of the most revered temple in the city. Couples who are interested in children almost always visit the temples in order to seek blessings for a child. A number of strange rituals are performed to give the blessings of fertility which have usually proved successful only increasing the faith of devout believers.
Bhutans culture and strong religious sense makes it a fascinating city to explore. Stay at a Bhutan Hotel and enjoy this city to its fullest. Uma Bhutan is a popular choice among tourists that boasts unmatched luxury and impeccable services. This is one Paro Hotel that you would definitely want to come back to.
