Goa is one of India’s most verdant cities, saturated with magnificent history and culture. It is also home to a splendid beach culture and visitors are able to experience Goa in all its richness from a quality beach resort in Goa. The Alila Diwa Goa is a fine example of a premium Goa resort that provides its guests with warm hospitality and superb facilities guaranteed to make any visit unforgettable. St Anne’s Church is a magnificent example of baroque architecture dating back from the Portuguese era in the country. Construction began in 1577, but was only completed 120 years later in 1695, due to the sponsorship changing hands. According to legend, during the church’s construction, a village elder named Bartholomew Marchon experienced a vision of an old lady donning a hat with a staff in hand telling him that the church was her home and she intended to reside there. A similar apparition was encountered by a Brahmin lady of high social standing, who was cured of a grave illness by the ghostly dame. In gratitude, the socialite converted to Christianity and consecrated the church in honour of St. Anne. In the late twentieth century, the church had suffered extensive damage due to neglect, but when part of the roof caved in in 2007, the state government undertook an initiative to restore the church to its former glory. Now, it stands as a resplendent tribute to some of the miraculous events that unfolded in the area and is definitely a must-visit site when your travels take you to Goa.
