Constructed to imitate a Song dynasty square-shaped palace, the Confucius Temple & Martyr’s Shrine is indeed a masterpiece of architecture. Built in the 1970s to support the claim of the Nationalist government as the legitimate heir of the classical Chinese culture, one must find a nearby Taichung hotel in order to truly explore the beauty of the place. There are plenty of hotels in Taiching that would suit the purpose amongst which Millennium Vee Hotel Taichung is a preferred option amongst many. sober and colourful at the same time, it is an uncommon and an exquisite example of the Song architectural style, differeing considerably from the more commonly used Qing and Fujianese styles used when building temples. Otherwise a peaceful space, one must head down to the temple on the 28th of September when Confucius’ birthday and Teachers’ Day fall to witness some vibrant celebrations replete with plenty of dancing, colour and festivity.
