Geoffrey Manning Bawa was born on 23 July 1919. He was a Sri Lankan architect who influenced countless other during his lifetime and he was the father of the concept of tropical modernism.
Lununganga estate bungalow
The lunuganga Estate was used as a cinnamon estate during the Dutch era and a rubber plantation under the British reign. And in 1949 the property was purchased by Geoffrey Bawa with the intent of making the estate bungalow a weekend house.
The modification of the property
After learning architecture in England Geoffrey returned to his house since then he’s been developing his house with the help of his architectural mastery until his last breath. The house and the gardens showcase many works by artists such as Donald Friend and Laki Senanayake as well as artifacts from Asia and Europe.
