Victoria Falls is the largest curtain of falling water in the world, with an incredible width of over 1700m, it is one of the best and most famous natural landmarks in the world. Naturally, this means it is absolutely gorgeous however you look at it. Nothing tops seeing the falls itself more than taking a dip in the Devil’s Pool, and this is a must-do when you visit Victoria Falls.
Where is the Devil’s Pool located?
The Devil’s Pool is located on the Zambian side of the waterfall, nestled right in the middle of the massive waterfall. It is a tricky spot to manoeuvre, so only guided tours are allowed to take visitors there. Do not attempt to travel there by yourself, as you could seriously injure yourself.
What You Need to Reach Devil’s Falls
While there are no additional requirements, you should be able to swim, as strong swimmers swim all the way from Livingstone Island to Devils Falls and back. Weak swimmers too can attempt it, as there will be guides to assist you and instruct you. While there is no law against non-swimmers from wading from the island to the pool, it is strongly frowned upon.
What are the Best Months to Visit Devil’s Falls
You can only reach Devil’s Falls during seasonal tours to Livingstone Island, operating from June to December. Getting in the water is only allowed when the Zambezi is low enough to be safe. The safest periods for a dip are in October and November, as this is when the water flow is not as fast.
What Else Can You Do Near Devil’s Falls?
Livingstone Island is surrounded by tropical forests, full of wildlife. You can spot various species of crocodiles, hippos, and even elephants that come to drink water from the Zambezi. Victoria Falls hotels the likes of Avani Victoria Falls Resort offer spa treatments so you can have a relaxing day. Recharge your mind and body before you get back into your wildlife vacation.
