Regarded as one of the must-visit highlights for all art lovers touring Bali and indeed Indonesia Museum Pasifika is no ordinary art gallery in the popular holiday Mecca. Showcasing the works of renowned artists from across the Asia Pacific region this engaging tourist hub dedicated to creative expression was set up as early as 2006.
Conveniently located in Nusa Dua, this public museum houses a permanent collection that includes 600 art works by more than 200 of Asia Pacific’s finest artistic talents. Hailing from more than 25 countries the permanent exhibit on show at Museum Pasifika can rightly be described as a true reflection of the region’s creative diversity as well as uniformity as themes, motifs and form coincide in many of these works to warrant a single classification that unites artists across eras and generations.
Divided in to separate galleries or pavilions visitors will first come across local paintings by Indonesia’s own artistic elite which occupies the first gallery of the venue. Pieces by Italian artists in the country decorate the second room while paintings by Dutch and French artists in Indonesia decorate the third and fourth galleries. Visitors can also catch a glimpse of Indo-European influences on Indonesian art in the fifth gallery whereas art works hailing from neighboring nations such as Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and the rest of the Indo-china peninsula occupies another gallery at the locale. Pieces by artists from Tahiti and Polynesia are found in a separate gallery while paintings by Nicolai Michoutouchkine and Aloi Pilioko are also displayed in the Premier Art of Vanutay and Pacific Islands room. Other points of interest include the enclosure containing art pieces from China, Philippines Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia and Japan. The area devoted to Tapa of Oceania and Pacific art is an equally intriguing corner of the venue which also displays historic objects from across the region. A space for temporary exhibitions is also part of the museum layout and visitors can enjoy the seasonal exhibits in this area during their visit.
