The Artificial Island
The palm-shaped archipelago is part of a mega-development plan of increasing the counties’ shoreline by 520 kilometers with the addition of 3 more archipelagos. The Palm Jumeirah being the smallest of all is home to some of the most luxurious residences and hotels.
Construction
The construction of this mega structure began in June 2001 in 2007 it became world’s largest artificial island as it was the first of its kind. But later on, the island was dwarfed by the other islands of the same expansion project and the and after some delays. The construction of the archipelago was fully completed in 2009.
Transportation
A dedicated monorail system was built to connect the Palm Jumeirah and the mainland and you can get to almost all the places in the island on a vehicle or a taxi as the island has a series of streets and roads which connects the island and the main mode of transportation.
