Perfectly reflecting an artistic tradition that dates back approximately 2,000 years, the Dushanbe Teahouse in Boulder, Colorado, U.S, offers teas from all around the globe. Created by the city of Dushanbe as a gift to its sister city of Boulder, the teahouse was gracefully handmade by forty artisans from Tajikistan. Among the types of teas at the teahouse are decaffeinated teas, lack teas, children’s teas, green tea, herb-bulk, herbal tisanes, Yerba mate tisanes, white teas, Rooibos tisanes, Puerh teas, oolong teas, flavored & scented teas and rare limited edition teas.
The decorative elements of the teahouse include tables, hand-carved and hand-painted ceiling, columns, stools and exterior ceramic panels. These impressive skills are said to have been handed down from one generation to another within families of Tajikistan.
In Central Asia, teahouses are generally considered as gathering places for friends to meet and play chess or talk over an invigorating cup of tea. Persian art is the highlight of most of the teahouses’ decorations. This art is basically characterized by pattern over detail, form over representation, repetition of patterns, lavish decoration and the use of various motifs of nature including solar, floral and stellar.
The exterior of the building is further graced by eight colorful panels whilst the interior flaunts eight intricately carved white plaster panels. An alluring feature of the teahouse is the central pool with seven hammered, life sized copper sculptures which are based on a 12th century poem named “The Seven Beauties”. The poem is appraised for its morality, social value, profound content, poetic value and rich composition.
Breakfast is served at the teahouse on every weekday whilst brunch is served every weekend. The teahouse is a fantastic place to celebrate Valentine’s Day, Mothers’ Day and Fathers Day. Special events are held here for the Persian New Year and the annual Rocky Mountain Tea Festival.
