Planning a Visit
Located in the eastern part of the city, this attraction is about 8 km from the Wuchang Railway Station in Wuhan. An Expansive Area
The nation’s largest city lake, the East Lake area spreads across 73 km set amidst mountains, rivers, forests and islands too. This site is great to visit in all four seasons and has six districts with diverse attractions. Home to plenty of fish and birdlife as well, it’s a popular spot for walking, jogging, biking and taking boat rides.
Some Highlights
As mentioned, the different districts here have much to offer; for example, one will find pine trees and bamboos in the Tingtao District, while the Mo Hill District has beautiful gardens and is known for its many blooms. Other highlights include Wuhan University in the Luohong District and Drum Mountain in the Luoyan District.
Colourful Festivals
Amongst the best things to do in Wuhan is to enjoy the festivals at East Lake including the Plum Blossom Festival at the beginning of March when plum blossoms burst into shades of red, white and pink. Also popular are the Cherry Blossom Festival (end of March to early April) and the Lotus Festival (from around June to August).
