If it’s fun in the sun, sand, and surf that you are after in Phuket, then Kata Beach is one of the best places to visit providing relaxation and recreation for the whole family.
Planning Your Trip
This idyllic stretch of shore is on the island’s west coast around 20 km from Phuket Town; it lies next to another coastal hideaway, Karon Beach, which is an ideal place to be based at hotels like Jono X Phuket Karon. Accessible by taxi, bus, or tuk-tuk, Kata Beach has something to offer year-round as well; the peak tourist season with optimal sunshine is from November to April, though the off-peak season from May to October offers the best waves for surfing.
What to Expect
Blessed with golden sands that stretch around 1.5 km along the coast, Kata Beach is known as a family-friendly one. Be you staying here or at nearby Karon Beach hotels, Phuket coastal bliss can be easily enjoyed at this shoreline which features sun loungers to rent and massage parlours overlooking the ocean too. The south end is more suitable for families with children and has areas with shade later in the day as well as amenities close by.
If you think this beach is just for spending lazy days sunbathing (hey, there’s nothing wrong with that!), you’re in for a surprise since there are some thrilling water sports on offer too. At the northern end is an islet where you can go snorkeling, and if you wish, you can go diving further off the coast too. You can also go stand-up paddling or kayaking or soar above while parasailing. Not to be missed is surfing during the off-peak season with surfboard rentals available as well.
Dining & Nightlife
Spending time at the beach and enjoying water sports will no doubt increase your appetite and when such hunger strikes, there are various restaurants, hawker stalls and family-friendly outdoor cafés nearby; you can look forward to trying authentic local dishes including fresh seafood delights. After the sun sets, you can experience some laidback nightlife too with bars and nightclubs to be found within easy reach of the beach.
