The Emirates features a blend of the great timeless Arabian culture as well as elements of the Western world. Doha has been praised by many tourists for the various activities and attractions it has on offer. Staying at a luxury hotel Doha has to offer is a great way to experience the best of the region. One such option worth considering is Banana Island Resort Doha by Anantara. Located about 20 minutes away from the city of Doha, the hotel is on an island and provides a unique starting point to your excursions.
One of the attractions to visit while in Doha is Zubarah Fort. The fort was initially built by Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani as a coastguard station. In the later years it was converted into a museum to display and exhibit art works and archaeological findings. The fort is located in one of Qatar’s largest heritage sites. A former pearl and trading capital, the small coastal town is regarded as one of the best preserved examples of a 18th and 19th century merchant town. In 2013 Al Zubarah gained UNESCO recognition to become a World Heritage Site.
The fort was constructed using traditional Qatari technique. The walls of the fort were built to last decades. The fort is a regular square shaped courtyard with three corners having tall towers that are typical Qatari style. The fourth corner is different to the others due to its rectangular shape. A stroll around the fort is perfect to explore traditional Qatari architecture.
