The Fa Hien Caves, which are located within the Kalutara District, is proved to be a group of caves that were inhabited by prehistoric cave men some thirty-seven thousand years ago. This cave is significant since it is supposedly the largest natural rock in Asia and is recognized as the most ancient pre-historic human settlement in Asia.
This is one of the best caving spots in the country. The cave lies 400 feet above the sea level and at the entrance the cave is 175 ft high and over 200 ft long. The cave is believed to be able to accommodate close to 3000 people. The cave is divided into four sections and the one to the left is the larges of all four.
