The name of the beach is a rendition of the Dutch phrase “Fried Landt Flaak”. It means flat and free land! This public beach has one of the longest stretches of white sand in Mauritius, while the lagoon is surrounded by coral reefs and scenic views overlooking the Indian Ocean.
It is located in the seaside village of Flic-en-Flac, close to Tamarin Beach. Nearby is the Casela Bird Park featuring hundreds of species of birds like the endemic and threatened pink pigeon.
What to do
You can choose from activities like parasailing, jet-skiing, boat rides and more. The lagoon is perfect for diving and snorkelling, while the long stretch of beach is ideal for swimming and sunning. Blue Bay Mauritius hotels the likes of Anantara Iko Mauritius Resort & Villas can be a top choice to base your stay.
It can get lively during the weekends, with plenty of locals heading to the beach and the restaurants nearby while the local Sega music reverberates along the seaside town. You can also find quite a few nightclubs close to the beach to dance the night away.
While there, don’t forget to visit Dolphin Encounter where you can swim with dolphins, and Tamarin Bay for some surfing and swimming in the crystal clear waters.
