Dedicated to the Hindu deity Vishnu and his noble avian steed Garuda is the Garuda Wisnu Kencana cultural park, located on the Bukit Peninsula at the southern corner of Bali. The Bukit is a scenic limestone platau, with views of Nusa Dua visible in the east and Uluwatu to the west. Here, you’ll discover an excellent repository of Uluwatu hotels primed for hosting your next island getaway. Of all the luxury Bali resorts on offer, consider checking into the Anantara Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa which is famed for delivering a stellar spa and hospitality experience. Soak up the ample spirituality that imbues the island of Bali with a visit to the Garuda Wisnu Kencana, an intriguing ongoing project that aims to create the world’s largest statue, featuring the Hindu god Vishnu seated atop his power animal, the bird Garuda. The current height of the statue is 23 metres, and the finished statue will soak up to an impressive 150 metres. Garuda’s wing span upon completion is expected to stretch out to 64 metres across. To get a sense of the completed statue, a smaller replica is available for visitors to see the finished product. The statue in entirety will be composed of more than 4,000 tonnes of copper and brass situated within a vibrant cultural park spanning 240 acres. Auxiliary facilities include a Festival Park, Lotus Pond, an amphitheatre, and an exhibition hall, amongst other attractions. Although the park’s primary feature drew some criticism as a spiritual disruption of the island’s energetic equilibrium, proponents appreciate the site’s ability to promote tourism in what is otherwise a barren landscape.
