The Quon Cong Temple is a sacred symbol of Chinese heritage, dedicated to a much loved and revered General of a bygone era. Hailing from the aristocratic Han Dynasty, Quon Cong earned the love and respect of the people with his bravery, integrity, and extreme loyalty to the emperor. In the feudal years of the Chinese Warring States period, history has it that Quon Cong served with the utmost rectitude, piety, and virtue. Built in 1653 by Vietnamese and Chinese immigrants, although the monument has undergone many restorations since, its original structure has been carefully preserved and has now been deemed a National Historic and Cultural treasure.
The temple consists of three sections which includes a beautiful open garden. Visitors will be captivated by the intricate art adorning the temple surrounds and features ceramic mosaics and ornate mythical beasts. The highlight here is the 3-metre-tall statue of Quon Cong. The sculpture of the long-bearded nobleman clad in regal green attire sitting atop a majestic white horse cuts an impressive and imposing figure. Another artifact of historical significance is the imperial robe of rich brocade, which was an offering of the Minh Huong people. Another attraction at the shrine is the collection of wooden boards containing odes to the great Quon Cong that were written by intellectuals who praised the great qualities of this beloved and venerated General and grateful tradesmen who believe they received blessings from his spirit.
During the sixth month of the lunar calendar, the temple celebrates the Ong Pagoda Festival dedicated to Quon Con and other deities, where visitors will be treated to a feast of colour and pageantry with the likes of the unicorn dance, group singing, and statue washing and incense offering ceremonies. The site presents a must-visit sight when holidaying in the mystical and amazing country.
