The Huli Mountain Fort is a historic defence system armed with an array of ancient weaponry. Built in the year 1891, the fort emulates the special characteristics of the military styles portrayed in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. From the arms, the ammunition, and the structure as a whole, a visit to the Huli Mountain Fort is a travel back time.
The wars of yesteryear had an essence of art; the guns were not sleek like the ones you see today yet had a more majestic and mighty appearance. The Huli Mountain Fort boasts the possession of the largest cannon in the world (The Krupp Cannon) and the smallest gun in the world. The Krupp Cannon stretches over 15 metres and the smallest gun only reaches a length of 11 cm. That is not the only highlight of the weapons in the fort for the King of the Cannon World also quietly sits by its side. It was named as such due to its sheer power. Made by the Krupp Company of Germany, the cannon spans across 14 metres, weighs around 60,000 kilograms and shoots cannons at a range of over 10,000 metres. It is really a work of wonder of that era.
This historic fort is located on the Hulishan Shore, south of Xiamen. It covers a total space of just over 13,000 square metres and is a complete exhibit of the entire military facility which includes the emplacement, the castle, the barrack, the secret tunnel, the trench, the drill ground, etc. The best part above all is that everything about the fort is still in excellent condition. The combination of Chinese and European styles gives the fort an interesting touch in terms of architecture and design.
